As the 2014 Carnival season gets into full swing, next up is Bacchanal Jamaica! Now in its third year, the organization has grown incredibly and the entire festival is on par with what you would see at carnival’s throughout the Caribbean islands. The theme for this year is “Conquest and Surrender” and features some of the most exquisite and beautifully designed costumes that rival the ones I recently saw at carnival in Trinidad, which is no surprise since veteran Trinidadian costume maker , Stephen Derek, is the designer behind some costumes for the road march.
The 2014 season kicked on February 7 and will end on April 27 with the Bacchanal Jamaica road parade. With various performers scheduled including Destra, Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons and Kes The Band. Amongst the stellar performers is veteran soca artiste Roy Cape who will play at the event for the first time in over a decade. Many of the popular carnival events will be back including the Bacchanal Friday night series from March 7– April 11, featuring Toronto’s own D’Bandit. Also on the party roster will be Bacchanal Beach J’ouvert on April 19, 2014 and Bacchanal J’ouvert on April 25, 2014. here are some highlights from last years festival!
