As we gear up for carnival season here in Toronto, there are many events on the horizon that will keep us in that carnival spirit, especially this weekends specially this weekends One Fantastic Nation, presented by Carnival Nationz.
Carnival Nationz has made a name for itself bringing some of the best talent from the Caribbean to celebrate Toronto Carnival. This time, its a family affair with husband and wife duo Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons, alongside Fay-Ann’s father, the legendary Super Blue. Joining them is the Asylum band, and Blaxx, who will undoubtedly perform his breakout hit from T&T Carnival. Leh GO!
Superblue is the reigning Soca Monarch, and a legend in the calypso genre. The song he won this years title with, Fantastic Friday, was his re-introduction to music after a long abscence – and he was welcome with open arms. To know and understand his influence in the music, here are just a few of the firsts he’s accomplished throughout his illustrious career:
– First calypsonian to ever perform at Wembley Convention Centre in London
– First Soca Monarch winner
– His performances of “Bachannal Time” and “Birthday Party” appeared on the first worldwide broadcast of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival via CNN
– Only calypsonian to appear on Sesame Street.
Even if you miss this awesome event, we’ll be providing a full event recap directly following – so stay tuned!
